TKAMB 15-17
Atticus is in a very dangerous situation. His client, his top priority, needs to be safe, but so does atticus himself. I don't think that the men should go after Tom in the first place, and they should leave Atticus alone. If the kids hadn't intervened when they did, Atticus might've been hurt, or worse, killed. Atticus, i believe, was relieved that the kids stepped in and saved both Tom's and possibly his own skin. Atticus was quite possibly wishing that the kids could rescue him from the court room, too. I don't believe Tom Robinson raped Mayella Ewell. I think that her father has more to with it than a black-man who only helps Mayella. Tom Robinson should be innocent.
