TKAMB: 22&23&24

Its the day after the trial and no one is "Happy". Jem is upset that things didn't go the right way. Atticus assures them that theres still the appeals process but i think deep down he knows that its no use, but he will still give it his all because he is a great person and a good lawyer. The African Americans have sent food to Atticus because of his efforts. I don't find that surprising because Atticus was doing Tom a great favor and the Black community altogether. We also find out that Mr. Ewell spit on Atticus's face and for him to watch his back. I find that very rude and other words, considering that we know that Tom Robinson didn't do it and it was Mr. Ewell himself. How can he lie like that and live with himself. I think he is just scared that he might go to jail. But why blame Tom Robinson if Mr. Ewell did it, that would just draw more attention to the whole thing. Its not like he will get money, i mean Tom is literally dirt poor now. I don't get what the Ewells are trying to do, but i do believe that Mayella is confused in some way.
Atticus takes the threat lightly. He says that no one can hurt Tom until after the appeal. Scout wants to make friends with Walter Cunningham but of course aunt Alexandra has the usual to say, they are not the right class, they are dirty, yada yada yada. They do some thinking and come to a question, why don't people just all become friends and get along. We all know the answer to that but Scout doesn't fully understand it, or she just wishes that people would. Then Boo Radley comes into the conversation and Scout thinks maybe thats why Boo Radly doesn't like to go outside. But I don't think that is the case. Boo Radly is grown up and grown ups face their problems and understand life, just cause humanity isn't perfect doesn't mean that you can just run away from it.
Scout is acting more like a grown lady now just like Jem. Even though she was "forced" to wear the dress I don't think she minded as much as she used to during the missionary tea. She is inside for the first time like ever while Jem is teaching Dill how to swim and they are skinny Dipping (Weird). Atticus comes home and tells the women in the house that Tom Robinson was shot while trying to escape. He and Calpurnia will be going to break the news to Mrs. Robinson. The people in Maycomb that wanted equality depended on Atticus and things just didn't go the right way.
