TKAM Chapters 12-14

Throughout these chapters we realize a difference in Jem's personality. He is suddenly beginning to grow up and mature. In chapter 13 we are introduced to Aunt Alexandra who I find to be a very unlikable character. She is very opinionated and narcissistic. Although Jem and Scout aren't very fond of her either, they are forced to stay with her for a while because she convinces Atticus that they are in need of a "feminine figure" in their life and it would be perfect since he has to travel to the state capital everyday for two weeks. In chapter 14 Scout discovers Dill hiding under her bed and he tells her that he's runaway because his mother and new step father don't pay enough attention to him. When Jem tells Atticus about Dill being there, Scout is disappointed because she doesn't understand why Jem would do that to her although it is the right thing. This shows that he is growing up and maturing as previously shown throughout these chapters.
