To Kill A Mockingbird Chapter 1

Jean talks about her family's history and how her mother died when she was 2. She mentions how it sometimes makes Jem sad to think about her, but it doesnt bother her so much because she doesnt remember. Their father is a lawyer and treats them as she says "satisfactory." They have a cook named Calpurnia. Next her brother Jem both talk to a boy named Dill who they seem to become interested with. Jean brings up Dill's father which makes him uncomfortable as you can infer while you read. After this they try to get a boy named Boo Radley out of his house. They dare Jem to go touch the house but nothing happens. Jean says they all seea shutter or something move. What I didn't really get is the beginning and why she randomly talks about her family's history and then transitions to her summer and this boy named dill? It was just confusing to me.
