To Kill a MockingBird: Chapter 1

I find it very interesting how Scout starts off her story by talking about her family history. I have seen the movie before, but I am glad to be reading the book because I think it will be much more detailed, especially about the court case. I hadn't known that Atticus had grown to dispise the practice of criminal law. I picked up on something that Scout had said: "Maycomb County had recently been told that it had nothing to fear but fear itself." What year is this book written (time period)? Dill seems to be a very interesting young boy, and both Jem and Scout seem to be fond of him. Boo Radley has many rumors that surround him, I wonder what he really is like. Will we watch the movie when we finish reading?
