To Kill A Mockingbird Chapters 4-6

In these three chapters, some key events happen. Scout and Jem finish school for the summer and Dill returns to the neighborhood to stay with his Aunt. The three begin to play their games again, and one of the first things they do is roll one another in a tire. Scout lands in front of the Radley place and all three of them panic. After this happened, this sort of snowballed their curiosity into something much greater. Scout is also feeling left out of the gang as Jem and Dill get to know each other better, so she had been going over one of her neighbor's more often, Miss Maudie. One day over Miss Maudie's house, she tells Scout that Boo Radley is still alive and that he is the way he is because of his hateful father. She also says that Boo was very friendly and nice as a child. I found this interesting because we begin to unravel Boo Radley's back story. It was a question that all of us have been wondering since the beginning of the book. Also, Jem and Dill have devised a little plan to get Boo Radley out of the house and have ice cream with them. The attach a note to a fishing pole and try to put it up to the window, but Atticus catches them in the act and tells the two to stop tormenting Boo. On the Dill's last night in Maycomb, him and Jem go over to the Radley place and take a peek through the window. After looking through several windows, they see a shadow of a man and scatter. As they are sprinting away, they hear a shotgun go off. When they return to the house, the neighborhood adults are over Jem's house and are talking about how Mr. Nathan Radley shot a negro in his yard. I wonder if this is actually true or if he was shooting at Jem and Dill but he missed. This continues to fuel the fire that is the mystery of the Radley's and their story.
