To kil a Mockingbirl chpt 2 and 3

In chapters 2 and 3 Scout describes many stories and events in regards to her classmates social standings that she doesn't really understand. Especially in regards to the significance of their situations. Like Burris Ewells showering and cootie problem or Walter Cunningham's status of being very very poor. Scout doesn't understand miss Caroline's reaction to her tales and why she doesn't just know these thing. Why did Caroline hit Scout for telling her about Walter, I don't understand her reasoning.
