I do not see why Scout was punished because she described how their town worked. The teacher blew it way out of proportion. She is not from there. She needs to learn how it works and the best way to find out how it works is the kids. They will tell you everything how it is without any miss understanding. Great book still, just sort of confusing with back wood language.
