To Kill a Mockingbird: Chapters 7 and 8. dD

Scout and Jem witness their first snowfall! Immediately Scout believes that the world is coming to an end, which is then corrected by Atticus who tells her about snow. Scout and Jem head over to Mrs. Maudie's yard and ask to borrow snow, and she gladly lets them take it all since she wasn't much of a fan of it.

I find it funny how Scout assumed the world was ending, and wonder how exactly it looked like that. Perhaps she thought the sky was falling?

Anyhow, Jem and Scout manage to build a snowman (resembling Mr. Avery; a neighbor). Atticus is quite proud of what Jem and Scout built, but asks them to change it a bit so that Mr. Avery wouldn't take offense to the snowman.

Later, Mrs. Maudie's house is downsized somewhat due to a fire. As Jem and Scout wait on the yard of the Radley residence, Boo Radley gives them a blanket without them realizing it. Mrs. Maudie looks upon the situation with optimism, saying she wanted more yard space anyway and this easily allows her more room.

Currently questioning what Boo Radley thinks of Jem and Scout.

Interesting series of events, somewhat surprised by Mrs. Maudie's enthusiasm about her house being burned a bit.

Thanks,
~B.E.
