To Kill a Mockingbird

"He was a real mean one...below the belt...you ain't called on to teach folks like that...them ain't Maycomb's ways"(Chapter 3, Pg. 28). What exactly is Maycomb County's ways? Also, I like how the book is going so far, and I thought that the little history/ancestory introduction was pretty interesting.
