TKAM ch 9

This story opens my eyes more and more about the time period. There is lots of racism and conflict in this chapter and though it surprises me; it makes sense for the time period. When Scouts dad defends a black man on trial accused of raping a white woman, a kid in her class called her father a  "(not a good word) lover". But it was not only then that that was said, her fathers nephew called him that as well. I feel sympathy for Scout because she had to deal with Francis who insults her and gets her in trouble. She had the right to hit him after what he said, and Uncle Jack had no right to hit her. This chapter sets up for the trial. It will show what the racism was like back then and how much times have changed. I predict that this trial will be a huge part of the book and will change Scouts life.
