TKAM chapter 9

This chapter was confusing for me because of the way scout was telling it.I understood   the beginning where Atticus was talking about his trial with scout but the whole Christmas traveling with Francis was where I got lost.  I hope things clear up in the chapters after this because I feel like this chapter had somewhat of importance
